About the Jubilee Garden
The mission of the Jubilee Garden Ministry is to “Feed the needy while working in a joyful Christian environment and sharing gardening learnings”.
The Jubilee Garden provides garden fresh produce to our communities' food pantries (St. Vincent de Paul, Emmaus House Community Dinner, and Alpine Church). This season has yielded just less than 2500 pounds of produce. The garden grows a variety of 'staple' vegetables: beans, corn, cucumbers, peas, peppers (jalapeño, habanera, yellow wax, and bell), potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, and tomatillos that are harvested several times a week for the food pantries.
The Jubilee Garden is a self-sustaining ministry meaning that it survives on donations only, volunteer time and garden finances. Incredible volunteers from all points within the surrounding communities support the garden. See the 'Community Support' page for details about this wonderfully generous community that comes together to support God's Garden.
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." 1John 5:14
Garden Hours
The garden is open in the spring (April/May) through October. See "Jubilee Garden Calendar" for specific dates and events. If the garden is closed due to weather or other reasons, it will be posted on the interactive calendar as well. Evening hours on Thursday is new for the garden this season (2012). There have been several requests for evening hours, so we'll give it a try and if enough volunteers come out to help. The intended work schedule at the Jubilee Garden is as follows:
Wednesday 9 - 11 am (often later, until the harvesting is finished)
Thursday Evening 6 - 8 pm - NEW HOURS THIS SEASON
Saturday 8 - 11 am (often Noon, until the harvesting is finished)
Volunteering
Explore these web pages to become familiar with the Jubilee Garden. As the Jubilee Garden has expanded, there are so many opportunities for volunteer both in and out of the dirt. No experience is necssary. No commitment is needed, but we always hope you come back. All the tools you need are at the garden. We have gardening gloves in every size. Come, visit, and stay a while.
There are a couple of adult volunteers with gardening experience that go to the Jubilee Garden on their own time to weed, clip/stake plants, and water. The garden is a large undertaking and can always use more help.
The parish has further contact information for the Jubilee Garden's leader, Kathy.
